Helpful Hints:

When answering the questions in any part of the cut list you may be better off to use variables and formulas instead of a fixed number. For instance, if you need your sides to be less in height by 3/4 ” and the height of your bottom piece is 3/4 ” you should answer with a variable instead of the fixed number .75. The variable for the bottom height is 'br'. You can find more variables in the help under Parts List Variables.

A note for people with the CNC version, you will want to first make sure the overall sizes are coming out correct before filling out the machining questions.

It is important to type in decimal values into the answer boxes.

KCD recommends checking your part accuracy as often as possible while editing and setting up your cut list method. This will help in determining part errors. For instance, you may, while checking your parts, encounter a typo error. (On occasion KCD will pop up an error box alerting you to a typo.) To fix this you would check the last things you have edited for typos since the last time you checked your parts. If you have only changed a few things, then backtracking your changes will only involve checking a few things. However, if you have made many changes then you will need to look over all of those changes. Because of that, it is recommended that you make only a few changes, then check the sizes, then make a few more changes. This will make finding mistakes much easier.

* When looking at the part viewer take a note or two about which parts are coming out incorrect and which dimension is incorrect. This will help you to figure out where to go when you go back into editing your cut list.

Closet Cut Listing Checklist:

  • Go to A-Setup.prt. Answer all of the questions on this page
  • Draw up a simple closet design on the drawing screen. Make sure there are 2 different interior widths of units on the screen.
  • Go to Parts, highlight your cut list method on the left, click on Calculate.
  • Look at the closet parts on the screen, make sure they are coming out correct for these units.*
  • If your bottom piece is showing an incorrect depth dimension, or your top piece is showing an incorrect width dimension, or your shelf depth and/or width is incorrect then you will need to Edit your cut list method and find the questions relating to these specific parts.
  • In the A-Setup.prt file only answer the questions relevant to the pieces which are coming out incorrectly. For instance, if you are having trouble with the width dimension of the top piece do not change the depth dimension of the bottom. This is not going to take care of your problem with the top width and it will probably create a new problem with the depth dimension of your bottom piece.
