Enhanced Communication for Complex Jobs: From Client to Machine
Richard and Joy Hipp founded Hipp Cabinetry & Construction in 2009 and to this day find their greatest satisfaction in the smiles on a client’s face when a project is completed. Hipp Cabinetry focuses on custom cabinetry, custom millwork, and one-of-a-kind furniture pieces for kitchens, offices, living rooms, bathrooms, mudrooms, and any area where homeowners desire fine woodworking.
Over the years, Rich states, those projects have become more and more complicated. He and his team of 6 employees have to calculate more complex radiuses, hide more electrical components, and create more drop down cabinets. One project included a Murphy bed with a television on the underside and another included a bookcase with hidden doors secreted in the molding.
To handle the increase in work and complexity, Rich purchased two CNC machines and KCD Software, as well as more complicated clamps, jigs, and other tools. One of the reasons for investing in CNC machinery is to assist his employees in tasks that used to be performed by hand but can be more efficiently and accurately completed by machine.

KCD Software helps in that effort by streamlining woodworking, creating lists for drawers and doors, and creating 3D drawings. “I chose KCD Software because I’m not a computer geek,” Rich admits. “I like its libraries, its click and drag function, and its one-on-one training.”
He and his team are especially grateful for KCD Software’s ability to talk to the CNC machine. KCD Software’s free tech support made a significant difference in setting up the connection. “Everyone’s going to technology,” Rich advises. “You need to learn as much as you can about different machines and software before jumping in.”
